A peek inside…
Most of the pictures of the early stages of the remodel, as well as the official “before” pics, are still squirreled away on one of Ted’s many hard drives. He’s currently spending every spare second finishing a very special project for an upcoming event, but he promises to let me at the pics as soon as he’s done.
Since I’m not known for my patience, though, I took things (and the camera) into my own hands today in the hopes of capturing some sense of the biggest structural changes. The clutter and dust you’ll see may make it hard to believe that we’re only a week or so from moving back in, but things are moving very quickly over there, and we can hardly wait.
So, without further ado…
View from the front door. Notice the bottom of the new stairs peeking out at bottom left of the arch.
New stair hall, in the space that was previously our bedroom, with the new stairs, ready to be stained.
View of new staircase and living room from kitchen entryway
Kitchen with view of new mudroom; glimpse of breakfast nook at right.
Breakfast nook. There will soon be a built-in bench under the windows (and the stove will be back in its normal place).
A look into the main floor bathroom, which was previously the only bathroom and is temporarily a storage room.
This is the boys’ old room that will now double as a guest room and my office. These lovely floors were previously covered by carpet.
Looking down at the stairs from the upstairs hallway. (That is one of the craftsmen sanding the stairs below.) The stairs will soon be the color of the floor. And there will be a railing, much to Hank’s chagrin.
Sconces on the wall in the upstairs landing.
Existing upstairs bedoom, previously our guestoom/office and the only part of the original upstairs we didn’t change. We left it as is to preserve the original roof lines in the front. Windows are new. The fir floors, stained a dark brown at some point in the past, were previously covered by carpet. They will be cleaned and given two coats of clear finish. This will be GBones’ new room.
This is a view from the stair landing showing the new laundry room and the boys’ bathroom.
View from entrance to master suite, which is located just past the boys’ bathroom. Room on right is a small walk-in closet with pocket door. Bathroom is at end of vestibule. Carpet will go in next week.
View into the master bath. Sit down with Ted sometime and ask him about that tub.
Shower in master bath, with Ted’s tub and the windows reflected in the newly-installed doors. Accent tiles are recycled glass. Fixtures will go in next week.
Master vanity being installed. Shelves are open, with one drawer in the middle. A slab of Jerusalem Gold Limestone will be installed on top of it next week after the sinks go in.
Master bedroom. On a clear day, we have a peekaboo view of Mount Rainier out those big windows. Not enough to officially qualify the house as a “view property,” but enough to make us smile when we see it.
So, there’s a taste. Things are changing pretty dramatically by the day at this point, so I’ll have more to share soon.
Feel free to let me know if there are particular things you’d like to see or details you’d like to know.
